Intuitive Eating Myth Busted: Intuitive Eating Means Having No Structure or Consistency

A common misconception and often times a way in which the disordered thoughts try to stick around is through the idea that it is not important to have structure and/or consistent eating is not necessary in intuitive eating. This happens when intuitive eating is boiled down to making the hunger and fullness principle into a hard and fast rule- eat when you are hungry and stop when you are full.

Intuitive eating is scary! It means relearning to trust your body and leading into having no rules around food. To protect ourselves, the disordered voice can be super convincing and help us feel safe in the process but telling us that “you will be safe if you just make sure to only eat when you are truly hungry and to stop at any sign of fullness.”

Nice try “disordered eating” voice but nah, that is not respecting your body.

  • Intuitive eating means eating when you are not "hungry"
