Body Image Activity: Letters to and From Your Body to Build Healthy Communication

We invite you to try out this activity with us today and every day. Let's start building healthy communication with our body.

This activity is where we write a letter to our body and ourselves to our body. The objectives of this is to:

  • To explore, process, and express how you are feeling towards your body.

  • To understand your relationship with your body and your body’s relationship with yourself.

  • To start the dialogue to learn how to listen to one another

  • To express those feelings and to ask the other one what they need

Your relationship with your body and your body’s relationship with yourself is just that- a relationship. In relationships, what we need is an understanding, an ability to listen to one each, an ability to understand and mend, to ask each other what you both need.

So let’s get started.

Step 1: Speak directly to your body

  • What thoughts are coming up?

  • What would you like to express to your body?

  • What do you want to say to it?

  • What emotions are coming up?

When practicing, feel your emotions. They are all valid. And try to work toward the following:

  • Listen To Understand

  • Be Open & Honest

  • You Can Disagree, But Don't Dismiss

  • Don't Make It All About You

  • Be Willing To Compromise

  • Work to Take A Positive & Loving Approach

Step 2: If your body were to speak back to you, what do you think it would say?

  • What thoughts are coming up?

  • What do you think your body would say to you?

  • What does it want to say to you?

  • What emotions are coming up?

Step 3: After hearing from your body, what do you think you would say back?

Step 4: Keep the Conversation Going
